On Tuesday 1 December, up to 200 volunteers are aiming to flood the streets of Sydney with a red sea.
The volunteers are the frontline of ACON’s (AIDS Council of NSW) annual Red Ribbon Appeal and they’ll be selling ribbons and Red Ribbon merchandise and collecting donations at selected locations across the city.
Red ribbons will be on sale for $2 each and wristbands will be available for $4 each.
Donations can also be made online at the official Red Ribbon Appeal website (www.redribbonday.org.au) or merchandise can be purchased from businesses displaying Red Ribbon merchandise boxes.
ACON CEO Nicolas Parkhill says the event is the organisation’s most important fundraising activity for the year.
“The money we raise through the Red Ribbon Appeal is vital to the work of ACON as it helps us prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS through education campaigns as well as provide the services and facilities essential to the health and wellbeing of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS across NSW,” he says.
Red Ribbon volunteers will be at the following locations in Sydney on Tuesday 1 December:
Sydney CBD
Circular Quay Station
Wynyard Station
Central Station
Town Hall Station
Martin Place Station
Hyde Park
Martin Place
Queen Victoria Bldg
Darlinghurst
Taylor Square
King Cross
Kings Cross Station
El Alamein Fountain
Newtown
The Hub
Most locations operate between 7am and 7pm. Some suburban sites commence at 8am and shopping centre times coincide with normal operating hours.
