Mardi Gras Comedy Debate Is Tops…Or Bottoms!

23 February 2010

The Great Debate

Comedian Jackie Loeb and broadcaster Bernie Hobbs are set to join the mad cap Bob Downe and four other amusing Aussies as they position themselves for a night of sexual power plays as part of The Great Debate at this year’s Mardi Gras festival.

Pondering the question “Top or Bottom, Butch or Fem - who rules the roost?” the line up of celebrity debaters also includes queer film fanatic Lex Lindsay, cabaret darling Denise Hanlon and GLBT media tart (aka Sydney Star Observer editor) Scott Abrahams.

The perennially popular Mardi Gras event is a fundraiser for ACON (AIDS Council of NSW) with all proceeds helping the organisation to carry out its work in the community.

ACON is Australia’s largest community-based gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) health and HIV/AIDS organisation. ACON promotes the health and wellbeing of the GLBT community and people with HIV, and provides information and support for people at risk of or affected by HIV, including sex workers, people who use drugs and the family and/or carers of people with HIV.

ACON Event Coordinator David Wilkins says this year’s theme is proving a real hit with the community.

“This year, we decided to really throw the cock amongst the hens and visit the age old question of what identity means and where the power lies in sex and relationships,” Mr Wilkins says.

“Pretty much everyone has a very strong opinion on the issue one way or the other and the response we’ve had so far has been terrific, not just from the community but from our debaters too – they just can’t wait to sink their teeth into this one!”

So assume the position and strap yourself in for a hilarious night of give and take that will have you role-ing in the aisles!
