Comedians Set To Get Ballsy At Mardi Gras Debate

21 February 2011

Tina C

International drag sensation Tina C is set to get physical with the mad cap Bob Downe plus five of Sydney’s funniest sexpots and sports-nuts to argue that ‘sport is better than sex’ at the Mardi Gras Great Debate this Wednesday night.

Tina, a 9-time Grammy Award winning country music artiste, global icon for peace, and independent presidential candidate, is the creation of British actor and comedian Christopher Green.

The line up of celebrity debaters also includes writer, actor and TV presenter Nell Schofield, stand-up comedian Rhys Nicholson, Queer film aficionado (aka Queer Screen Artistic Director) Lex Lindsay, writer and performer Zoe Coombs Marr and performer and artist Annaliese Constable.

The perennially popular Mardi Gras event is a fundraiser for ACON (AIDS Council of NSW) with all proceeds helping the organisation to carry out its work in the community.

ACON is Australia’s largest community-based gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) health and HIV/AIDS organisation. ACON promotes the health and wellbeing of the GLBT community and people with HIV, and provides information and support for people at risk of or affected by HIV, including sex workers, people who use drugs and the family and/or carers of people with HIV.

ACON Event Coordinator David Wilkins says this year’s theme is proving a real hit with the community.

“Whether they’re mad spectators of filthy voyeurs, this year’s debate will certainly appeal to anyone who has pondered whether it is nobler to be ‘Swifter, Higher and Stronger’ or sexier to be ‘Slower, Harder and Deeper’,” Mr Wilkins says.

“We want people to join in the fun and find out if ‘Forty Love’ can be as exciting on a tennis court as can be in a steam room and if Footy Trade Week is as much fun as it sounds!”

So, lovers and fighters, strap on your sports-bras and jockstraps, and book now. It’s game on!
