Mates
Summer is all about getting out and getting together with our mates. As mates we come together in many ways, in all our diversity and all our shared experience. Whether we're play mates, party mates, soul mates, real mates or good mates one thing remains the same - mates look after each other…it’s what we do.
There are heaps of ways we can help ourselves and support our mates to reduce the incidence of HIV, STIs and homophobic violence.
As mates we can "look out for each other" around:
- HIV/STIs – by promoting responsibility, testing and condom use, raising awareness of PEP and support for sero-discordant relationships
- Drug use – by promoting access to information, providing support and access to treatment services, providing individuals with strategies to support their mates who may be experiencing problematic drug usage and strategies to reduce drug related harm
- Homophobic Violence – by promoting access to information and support services, learning street safety strategies to reduce violence and encouraging victims and witnesses to report incidences of homophobic violence.
