GLBT 2020 Extended
Members of NSW's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community are being urged to help shape the future of of their community by participating in the latest phase of the GLBT NSW 2020 initiative.
In the mould of the Federal Government's recent 2020 Summit, GLBT NSW 2020 is a special project which aims to create a plan for the development of NSW’s GLBT community.
The initiative began in September 2008 when representatives from about 20 leading GLBT community organisations met at a roundtable to discuss the parameters and how it should proceed. Following the meeting, an interagency working group was formed to drive the initiative through a process of public consultation.
The working group has now launched an online survey that will allow individuals and other community groups to rate the key priorities from that earlier roundtable, or suggest their own. The priorities include:
- Equality
- Anti-discrimination laws
- Anti-homophobia resources in schools
- Better dialogue
- A more caring community
The survey will also ask what services GLBT people want to see in their local area, such a GLBT community centre or more health, aged care, news, religious, or youth services.
The results of the survey will inform the agenda of the next GLBT 2020 Summit later this year.
