Sex Work
Sex work is LEGAL in NSW.
Operating a brothel or escort agency has also been decriminalised.
There are some laws and regulations in NSW that apply to sex workers, their clients and the operation of sex industry businesses.
For more information on these, visit the SWOP website or call the Sex Worker Outreach Project (SWOP).
Harassing, intimidating or harming sex workers is ILLEGAL.
People in all occupations have rights – this includes workers in the sex industry. Brothel owners must ensure a safe environment for workers and clients.
Assaulting a sex worker, including rape, is a serious crime. Sex workers have the right to report all crime to police. SWOP can assist sex workers in reporting crimes.
SWOP produces a range of safety information for sex workers, including ‘9 Lives: Surviving Sexual Assault in the Sex Industry’, safety and security factsheets, and information for new workers. SWOP also offers free and confidential short-term counselling to anyone working in the sex industry.
