Carers NSW Survey

Carers NSW Survey

Carers NSW is seeking participation of carers from a diversity of caring situations and carer population groups including GLBTI carers, to enable a better representation of all carers in NSW.

The Carers NSW Survey 2010 will specifically aim to include hidden carers: people who are carers but do not recognise themselves as such, carers who for many reasons do not access formal services or carers who live in remote areas and are unable to access formal services.

Carers NSW is an organisation for people who provide informal care for family and friends with a disability, mental illness, drug and alcohol dependencies, terminal illness, chronic condition or who are frail. Carers NSW conducts a survey among carers in NSW every second year to inform policy work. The aim of the Carers NSW Survey 2010 is to inform Carers NSW’s strategy for the 2011 NSW Government election and the 2011 NSW Budget Submission.

As part of this survey a focus group consultation will be held with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual,Transgender and Intersex (GLBTI) carers. GLBTI carers may face additional challenges as carers because of discrimination and marginalisation, and absence of family support or social isolation. The consultation will seek to understand the specific needs of GLBTI carers.

Any information or personal details that are given in the survey are confidential. No person will be identified in any publication of results. Only the policy team at Carers NSW will see the data and may anonymously quote some of the answers to support our position in policy documents or published material.
