ACON runs a number of community and fundraising events, parties and launches throughout the year in which volunteers play an essential part.

Roles at these events may include:

• Safe Sex Sluts - a group of volunteers who promote safe sex at GLBT community events by distributing condoms packs and information about safe sex
• Logistics - making props and sets and helping with the bump in/bump out of an event
• Promotion - assisting in the distribution of ACON promotional or fundraising information and resources

At key busy times of the year we particularly need a surge of volunteers to help run events. This is especially during AIDS Awareness Week and the Mardi Gras Festival.

World AIDS Day/AIDS Awareness Week (Nov-Dec annually)

Volunteers are greatly needed at this time to help raise vital funds and awareness for people living with HIV/AIDS. ACON could not provide the essential services and campaigns without this support and need a surge of volunteers during this time.

Help is needed to sell red ribbons in teams on the streets of Sydney or at your workplace. It's rewarding and fun, and people often volunteer with friends. Training is provided as are certificates that recognise your contribution. Assistance is also needed to implement various events and fundraisers at this time such as the Candlelight Memorial and Walk for AIDS.

Mardi Gras Festival (Feb-Mar annually)

ACON runs a number of events during the MG festival, as well as being a big presence at Fair Day and the Mardi Gras Parade.

There’s a huge range of things that require volunteer help throughout this period, such as:

• The Great Debate
• Hats Off
• Big Bingay
• Velvet (a night of entertainment raising funds for lesbian health)
• Fair Day in Victoria Park
• Production of the Acon Parade float

Volunteer jobs at all of the above events are varied. They suit a wide range of skills and interests and can be for day or night time availability. You may want to help in one or more of our events or just join us for our parade entry.
