Counselling

Sometimes it helps to talk to someone apart from your partner, family, or friends. Being able to bounce ideas and thoughts off someone can help you improve how you feel about yourself and open up new options and choices in your life.

The ACON Counselling Service offers trained professional counsellors who are able to help you deal with issues in many areas of your life, including:

  • Grief and loss
  • Relationships
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Sexuality and identity
  • Coming Out
  • Stress management
  • Living with HIV
  • Alcohol and other drugs
  • Couples counselling
  • Violence
  • Personal development and growth
  • General life concerns

The Counselling Team has male and female counsellors and psychologists who offer a FREE & CONFIDENTIAL short-term counselling service to all members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities and to those people living with, affected by, or at risk of HIV/AIDS, including partners, friends, and family. However, due to the nature of our service, priority is given to any client who is HIV positive and financially disadvantaged.

When you make a request for counselling, an Intake and Assessment Officer will take you through our intake and assessment process to assist in deciding on an appropriate ACON counsellor for you, and/or on referral to other services suited to meet your individual needs.

For inquiries please contact our Intake and Assessment Officer on (02) 9206 – 2000 between 11am - 1pm Monday to Friday.
