Who is it For?: HIV+ men and women as an introduction to exercise and general health
Where Is It: Golds Gym and ACON's Positive Living Centre
When: Intake for September/November 2010 taking place now
Duration: 12 weeks
Healthy Life+ offers weekly health seminars and discussions, individualised training programs and free gym membership. Seminars take place at the Positive Living Centre. Participants receive and are expected to complete:
- 12 week free membership at Golds Gym
- Personal guided training (3 sessions)
- Instruction in training techniques
- Group motivation
- Nutrition consultation (3 appointments)
- Health improvement seminars and discussions
Exercise can lead to increased muscle mass, minimising weight loss and slowing or reversing the effects of lipodystrophy and can also lead to improved health and immune systems. Although this program is open to any HIV positive person, preference will be given to people with social isolation, affected by weight loss or lipodystrophy and those on low incomes.
Facilitation of the program is provided by appropriate health experts, ACON staff and fully-trained fitness leaders.
