Hep B + HIV

Hepatitis B is an infection of the liver caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV).
Many people with HIV also get hepatitis B. It's very infectious and can easily be passed on during sex. The majority of adults who get hepatitis B have no symptoms and it's often only diagnosed by routine blood tests. Nine out of ten adults who get hepatitis B will make a full recovery and be immune for life. However, a minority of people (1% - 10% of older children and adults) will be unable to clear the virus and become chronically infected. For a very few, it will cause severe and even fatal damage to the liver.
The good news is that you can get vaccinated to prevent hepatitis B.
