Housing NSW accommodation

The Housing NSW is a government owned and managed housing support service. The Housing NSW provides housing for people in housing need who are on low to moderate incomes. The type of housing available will depend on the level of housing need and the type of housing stock available. The Housing NSW provides housing support in a number of ways:

  • Affordable, long term, secure housing
  • Rental assistance
  • Temporary emergency accommodation

If you need help finding a home, the Housing NSW may be able to provide you with priority housing support. If you're in private rental, you may be able to get help with rental payments, bonds, moving costs or phone or electricity connections.

Community housing

Community housing is a form of social housing. Community Housing is affordable, secure, long term and provides a similar degree of security to that offered by the Housing NSW. The difference between community housing and the Housing NSW is in its size and the way that it’s managed. There are two main forms of community housing:

  • Community Housing Association
  • Co-operative housing (forpeople who want to fully participate in the management of their housing)

For any information on Co-operative Housing you can contact:

Private Rental Subsidy

Private Rental Subsidy is a rental subsidy given to people with HIV who require housing support and have the option to rent privately. To be eligible for Private Rental Subsidy you'll need to apply for housing assistance with the Housing NSW. You'll need proof of your HIV status and income.  If you're interested in finding out more about Private Rental Subsidy you can pick up an information newsletter from ACON in Sydney or at any ACON branch in regional NSW.
