Atripla – The ‘One Pill Once-A-Day Combination Treatment’ To Be Available From 1 January 2010

Atripla – The ‘one pill once-a-day combination treatment’ to be available from 1 January 2010.

The first combination pill giving people with HIV the option of taking their HIV Treatments as one pill once a day has been approved by the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and will be available from the 1st January 2010.

Atripla contains three HIV medicines in one pill:

  • Stocrin (efavirenz)
  • Emtriva (emtricitabine)
  • Viread (tenofovir)

Emtriva and Viread are currently available in one combination pill called Truvada (emtricitabine and tenofovir).

If you're taking these three medications then Atripla might be suitable for you.

People who have sensitivities or resistance to any of these medications might not be able to tolerate Atripla.  If you'd like to know if Atripla is suitable for you please contact your HIV doctor.

Atripla has been available in the United States and Europe for some time and has made dosing easier for people who are able to take advantage of the combination contained in this pill.

Gilead Sciences, who will be producing Atripla in Australia, plan to launch a website to assist people with the transition to this new combination.
