After Hours Counselling
Operating Monday to Thursday evenings, this service provides medium-term counselling. This is a 26 week block of one counselling session per week. Appointments are available at 6pm and 7pm.
The service specifically targets people living with HIV/AIDS, members of the GLBT community, unwaged or low income earners and clients who cannot attend daytime counselling. Unfortunately, this service is unable to see:
- People who are assessed to have recent or current risk of suicide
- People who use violence
- People living with an untreated or unmanaged mental illness
- People experiencing difficulties with alcohol and/or other drugs and who are not enrolled in a relevant support program
Who are the counsellors?
The counsellors are experienced professionals, new graduates or students in their final year of study who are volunteering their time and expertise. All counsellors are required to be registered members of their governing body and are bound by their code of ethics. ACON provides all our counsellors with regular clinical supervision that meets the requirements of these governing bodies.
