What We Do
What we do
Research involves gathering, analysing and disseminating relevant and quality information that can be used to further our understanding of our communities and the issues affecting them. We use this research to develop our programs and services, to develop evidence based policy and to inform our advocacy efforts.
Research at ACON involves working with our communities so that GLBT health and HIV research is community-driven. This means encouraging community participation at every stage – in the development of research, the conduct of research and the dissemination of research results.
ACON also:
- participates in research conducted by others;
- builds our own community based research;
- advocates for research, where we identify gaps or emerging issues; and
- assists with funding for research projects.
Why we do it
Research is essential to ensuring that ACON’s response to issues of importance to our clients and community is evidence-based. Research helps us in our advocacy work to address policy issues and expand the range of services to meet the needs of our communities.
