Safe Sex In Relationships

There are a range of reasons why lesbians and same-sex attracted women in relationships might continue to get tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) with their partner.

These include:

  • The health checks and STI tests provide peace of mind
  • The women in the relationship may not be able to agree on a set of guidelines for the sex they have within and/or outside of their relationship. This may present more risk of transmission of STIs
  • The women may be in the early stages of their relationship and want to ensure themselves and their partners are cared for
  • The women may be experiencing problems in the relationship
  • Either or both women may not be able to trust the other to be honest about potential risks
