Orgasm

Orgasm

Did you know that women can have more than one kind of orgasm?

Women have a wide array of erogenous zones and they can differ for every woman. Erogenous zones are places on the body that bring about sexual pleasure when stimulated in some way - and they can vary from nipples to toes! The two most popular erogenous zones for female orgasm are the vagina and the clitoris.

The clitoris

  • The areas above, to the sides, and below the clitoris are highly sensitive
  • The only physical function of the clitoris is to provide sexual pleasure
  • Most women claim that the clitoral orgasm is the most intense
  • In his book Sexual Behavior on the Human Female (1953), Charles Kinsey found that out of 2700 American women, half received orgasm through clitoral stimulation

The vagina

  • Many women claim that it is more difficult to achieve a vaginal orgasm than a clitoral one

The G-Spot

The G-Spot confuses many people, and there is debate about whether it's a reality. Chances are that just like other erogenous zones, women experience this sensation differently from one another.

Where is it?

The G-Spot is a small mass of tissue located about two inches from the vaginal opening. It's on the anterior of the vaginal wall (the wall closest to your belly button) and it enlarges during stimulation.

How does it work?

The G-Spot is directly connected to the orgasm centre in the brain. So when it's stimulated and orgasm occurs, the female sexual response is highly intense. This erogenous zone can only be felt when the female is aroused. The area then swells with blood and becomes rough and raised. Once aroused, intense sexual pleasure ensues.

How do you make it work?

The G-Spot only responds to pressure, not to touch, so not just any position will do. This is why so many women find it difficult to find their own G-Spots. Many women find that being on top or in a sitting position during penetration is the best arrangement for stimulating the G-Spot.

One type of orgasm is not better than the other

Put simply, there are different ways of experiencing pleasure. Every woman has her own preference over which orgasm provides the best pleasure. Communication is the key when it comes to exploring your partner/s sexual likes and dislikes, including orgasms!

Not everyone orgasms

It's physically possible for every woman to reach orgasm. For many women reaching orgasm can be difficult for a range of reasons including distractions, side effects of medications such as anti-depressants, stress, psychological factors etc. Orgasm is not the only goal of sex. The journey and expressions of lust, passion and love can all exist in the absence of an orgasm.  If you or your partner/s have trouble reaching orgasm try to talk about your sex life and if there are any changes you would like to make.

Faking an orgasm

70% of women admit to faking an orgasm at some point in their lives. Many women assume that sex is only pleasurable if orgasm has been achieved. This is one of the leading causes of a faked orgasm. It's a common misconception by many women that if their partner doesn’t have an orgasm, then the sex wasn't any good – meaning, they weren't any good. So some women tend to fake loud, earth-shattering orgasms in an attempt to ease their partner/s mind. In fact, the majority of women who admit to faking orgasm do it because:

  • They don’t want their partner to feel inadequate
  • They want to make their partner happy
  • They want to encourage their partner to orgasm

Think about the reasons for faking orgasms and consider the benefits of communication and sexual pleasure.
