We’re helping sett the stage for some of the finest artists within the LGBTI community to showcase their best works in four impressive art exhibitions during this year’s Mardi Gras season.

Alterity, The Company of Men, Galaxy & Glitter and Fierce Femme are the exhibitions sponsored by ACON, presenting work that is provocative, challenging, sensual and inspiring. Alterity opens on 24 February, while the other three events mark their official openings on Thursday 3 March – a night that will turn Sydney’s art community a distinct shade of queer.

“Art is a powerful medium that can speak many languages and reveal many stories,” said ACON CEO Nicolas Parkhill. “ACON is delighted to be involved in the presentation of these shows, as they express a range of outlooks and perspectives of the lives of the people within our community.”

Alterity is a space for First Nations artists from a variety of disciplines to celebrate what it means to be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, as well as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex.

The Company of Men is a multi-media art exhibition, featuring the photographic and film work of queer art provocateur Bruce LaBruce, as well as other queer artists, including Australia’s Rogan Richards and Simonology, along with Spain’s Boni Jiménez and Sweden’s Pär Åhlander.

Step into a glittering world at Galaxy and Glitter. Be dazzled by provocative art, exciting performances, funky music and sizzling-hot near-naked men, all in celebration of Mardi Gras and LGBTQI pride. A percentage of the opening night’s proceeds will go towards ACON’s inclusivity initiatives.

Fierce Femme is a photographic exploration of Femme identity: raw, sassy, strong and proud. The event will feature a range of beautiful works by professional artists alongside a selection by talented amateurs, all celebrating the aspects of the fierce femmes in our LGBTIQ community.

“ACON welcomes all art lovers to revel in the wealth of magnificent art at each of these four shows, and to celebrate the diversity of our community, in all its many colours,” Mr Parkhill said.
